The Standard

 

First blood

On Easter weekend this year a Bareback team with one new rider took the field at Peffermill for the first UK based comp of the year. After 5 hard fought games they met Freezin Hot in the final and won 3-2. On the day the team was:

Boys: Eddie Sanjuan, Robbie McKenzie, Davie Macfarlane, Gary Reynolds, Carl McWilliams, and David Tweedie

Girls: Mary Pat Tierney, Sara Mears, Fionna Mackinnon and Rebecca Walker

A few of the team had been at the Sangrass villa the night before for a "quiet" night in in preparation..... as usual this escalated and before they knew it there was projectile out the window and people being put to bed around 3am. Not the prep they had intended. Regardless of this set back

the team ploughed on wearing there black armbands in memory of John Candy, RIP.

After a touch pool the BBR met glasgow based Go Commando in the semi finals. The west coasters were resilient in the first half but failed to contain the power of the BBR in the latter stages and lost 5-2. In the other semi final host team, led by Mikey Short, faced Kirkcaldy RFC's Freezin Hot. This was a close run match with underdogs Freezin Hot pulling away with minutes left.

The final was no given with both teams matching each other score for score until the final 5. Dave Tweedie thought he had created some daylight between the scores with a blistering run down the touchline only to be pulled back for a foot in touch. Dave, in his classic style, contested the decision and spat his dummy out having a full tantrum on the field - brilliant.
